FTKPM Strengthens Industry Ties Through MoU with Vale Malaysia Minerals Sdn. Bhd.

 

The Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), has established a strategic collaboration with Vale Malaysia Minerals Sdn. Bhd. through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening industry engagement and knowledge sharing.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Faiz bin Mohd Turan, Dean of FTKPM, and Mr. Leonardo Paiva, Chief Executive Officer of Vale Malaysia Minerals Sdn. Bhd., along with the faculty’s management team and Vale Malaysia staff.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward advancing Work-Based Learning (WBL) initiatives and expanding opportunities for academic-industry partnerships, particularly in the fields of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering. The initiative is expected to greatly benefit students by bridging academic knowledge with real-world industry practices.

FTKPM expresses its gratitude to Vale Malaysia for this meaningful partnership and looks forward to future collaborative efforts that support talent development and innovation.

On February 25 and 26, 2025, MBOT (Malaysian Board of Technologists) conducted an accreditation assessment visit for the Mechatronics Engineering Technology (Robotics) program.

We would like to express our appreciation to all the lecturers involved in the BTX program for their readiness to attend interviews and provide additional documents related to the course files. Additionally, we extend our thanks to the coordinators associated with the BTX program for successfully updating the latest information regarding the program for the reference of the assessment panel.

We also wish to congratulate and thank the Program Coordinator, Dr. Ahmad Najmuddin b. Ibrahim, and all the coordinators who successfully facilitated the MBOT accreditation assessment session for the BTX program. The assessment process went smoothly, and we deeply appreciate the cooperation extended by all parties involved.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to ensuring the success of this accreditation assessment process.

Sharing Session : Route to Professional Engineer at FTKPM

On January 22, 2025, the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering (FTKPM) organized a highly valuable sharing session titled Route to Professional Engineer. This session aimed to provide staffs with insight into the journey of becoming a Professional Engineer, featuring three experienced speakers in the engineering field.

The first session, held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, was presented by Ts. Dr. Asrul Adam, who shared his experience in securing consulting work and building a successful career in engineering.

After the break, the second session took place from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, where Ir. Ts. Dr. Mas Ayu Hassan discussed her experience with attachment programs and IR application through Route B - CEng, conducted online.

The final session, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, was led by PM Ir. Dr. Mohamad Fared Murshed, who talked about IR application via Route A - OBE, also online.

We would like to express our gratitude to Ts. Dr. Asrul Adam, Ir. Ts. Dr. Mas Ayu Hassan, and PM Ir. Dr. Mohamad Fared Murshed for their insightful contributions. We hope this session has inspired students to pursue their dreams and work towards becoming Professional Engineers.

OBE Enhancement and Constructive Alignment Training

 

On 21st January 2025, the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM) organized the OBE Enhancement and Constructive Alignment Training to Address the EAC & ETAC Standard 2024. The event, held at Lecture Hall 1, FTKPM, aimed to strengthen the understanding and implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) among academic staff, ensuring alignment with the latest EAC & ETAC 2024 standards.

The program commenced with a welcoming speech by the Deputy Dean (Academic) of FTKPM, followed by three highly engaging and insightful sessions:

1️⃣ Slot 1: Unlearn, Learn, and Relearn of OBE Approach in Engineering Education
2️⃣ Slot 2: Addressing the Gaps in EAC/ETAC 2024 Standards
3️⃣ Slot 3: Constructive Alignment in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment

Participants actively engaged in discussions and shared their experiences in adapting OBE principles to improve teaching, learning, and assessment strategies. The training was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Che Maznah Mat Isa, a renowned expert in Civil Engineering Studies from Universiti Teknologi MARA Pulau Pinang Branch.

The workshop provided a platform for FTKPM academic staff to address challenges and explore innovative solutions in preparing for the implementation of the latest accreditation standards. The faculty is committed towards continuous professional development.

10-12 November 2024 – The Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), UMPSA, successfully organized an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Workshop and Work-Based Learning (WBL) Engagement Session in collaboration with esteemed industry partners. This impactful workshop aimed to enhance the relevance of academic programs by aligning them with real-world industry standards.

The event saw active participation from industrial coaches representing prominent companies such as ALPS ALPINE, Besi APac, Bosch Malaysia, Carigali-PTTEPI, Continental, Fourier, Kärcher Malaysia, KUKA, MITS Solutions Asia, Robopreneur, Smith+Nephew, TT Vision Technologies, Wiwynn, Move Robotic, and TT Electronics.

Workshop Highlights

The program commenced with opening remarks by the Dean of FTKPM, followed by detailed discussions and brainstorming sessions aimed at improving the structure and delivery of WBL and Final Year Project (FYP) courses. Key takeaways include:

  • Morning Discussions:

    • Refining teaching plans and course assessments for WBL.
    • Developing case studies and rubrics tailored to industry needs.
    • Obtaining operational feedback to ensure the smooth delivery of WBL courses.
  • Afternoon Focus:

    • Establishing appropriate project scope and depth for FYPs to align with industry standards.
    • Creating robust assessment methods to gauge student competencies effectively.
    • Incorporating insights from industry supervisors for continuous improvement in FYPs.

This workshop emphasized the importance of fostering close collaboration between academia and industry to better prepare students for their professional journeys. The constructive feedback and support from industrial coaches are invaluable in shaping programs that meet evolving industry demands.

FTKPM Collaborates with Universitas Putra Indonesia YPTK Padang through Global Classroom Initiative

 

28 October 2024 – The Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), hosted a Global Classroom session in collaboration with Universitas Putra Indonesia YPTK Padang. This academic partnership aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of FTKPM students through exposure to cutting-edge technology and expertise from international specialists.

The session featured Dr. Nanang Fatchurrohman, an expert from Universitas Putra Indonesia, who shared his insights on Electric Discharge Machining (EDM), a state-of-the-art industrial machining technology. EDM is particularly significant for its capability to improve efficiency and precision in manufacturing processes, especially in producing complex and high-performance components.

FTKPM students gained firsthand exposure to the concepts, applications, and latest innovations in EDM technology. The interactive session allowed them to engage directly with Dr. Nanang, deepening their understanding of the technical aspects involved. This Global Classroom initiative not only enriched the students’ academic experience but also paved the way for broader collaborations between the two institutions, aiming to produce competent graduates ready to tackle global industry challenges.
